about

Different Activities, Similar Diversions is a compilation of droney love songs dedicated to buildings, stationery and the weather. New Year’s upbeat opening mantra leads the way to eight more tracks of Kate Gibson’s buzzing farfisa and Matt Ashton’s (Saloon / Singing Adams) chiming guitar, with the centre piece of Evening Runner adding layers of synth drone and violin over a skipping heartbeat kick. The Stereolab (ish) horns of Many Small Hands’, Rob Smoughton’s (Hot Chip / Black Peaches) jazzy yet motorik drums, and the layered vocals and bass fuzz of Bright Blue all combine to make a album of warm, drifting pop songs.

Matt Ashton – guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, synth, percussion, piano, vocals
Kate Gibson – vocals, synth, piano
Gareth Jones – bass
Ben Smith – guitar, synth, programming

with

Alice Holloway-Smith – trombone on Many Small Hands
Alice Lloyd – violin on Evening Runner
Michael Smoughton – trumpet on Light and Colour and Many Small Hands
Rob Smoughton – drums on Light and Colour, No Memories, No Plans, Many Small Hands and Closer
