Solar Fires 09:51

about

This release was commissioned by Kristian Day for the TERRAFORMS exhibition at The Concept Space in Bermondsey, London in July 2018. The band were asked to provide a piece of music to accompany the show, as well as performing at the private view.

Building Better Worlds is 15 minutes of steady space rock, built on brooding drones, fuzz bass, and pulsing drums. Half-buried electronics and dubbed guitars bubble up to the surface, whilst layers of vocal incantations coldly lament the human capacity for destruction, flipping the exhibition's theme of terraforming and construction (at the same time snatching an ironic title from sci-fi's least ethical employers, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation).

The instrumental live version stretches the original out over 20 minutes of constantly building repetition and drone, whilst Solar Fires is a melancholy yet jagged piece of astral feedback fit for the coldest reaches of space.

The exhibition featured work by Blue Firth, Anna Hughes, Rafal Topolewski, Josephine Baker, Joel Wyllie, Frank Kent, Charlie Duck, Molly Palmer and Adam Shield.
